Description of Back to the Future Part II
A fun game based on the hit Michael J. Fox movie of the same name, Back to The Future II closely follows the movie's plot and is high on the fun factor.
The plot picks up where the first Back to The Future movie left off: after finally returning to the present (1985) from the year 2015 on a whirlwind tour of the future, Marty McFly learned, to his horror, that he must go back to the future with Doc again in order to change the course of history in order to avert time paradoxes that puts his own family in peril.
In true Image Works / Mirrorsoft fashion, Back to The Future II is a collection of five distinct mini-games that each tell a chapter of the story. If you have seen the movie, you pretty much know what to expect from the next chapter, although there are enough surprises and twists in each to keep things refreshing. The designers obviously went to great lengths to ensure that no two mini-games are alike.
The beginning chapter, for instance, is a furious Paperboy-style isometric racing game, in which you control Marty on his trusty Hoverboard in the year 2015, avoiding various obstacles on and off the road. When you gain access to the De Lorean time-travel car, you will be treated to a fun mini-driving simulator that may not be Test Drive, but offers plenty of challenge all its own.
Overall, solid gameplay and homage to the movie makes Back to The Future II a fun game that is a little bit too short, but is entertaining while it lasts. Unlike some Image Works games, it also borders on the easy side, which makes it a good starting point for newcomers to the action genre. Recommended, especially to fans of the movie.

Back to the Future III is a collection of four arcade games. Marty McFly and Doc Brown have traveled back through time to the year 1885 - and they're soon deep in trouble when they face 'Mad Dog' Tannen's gang and have to find a way to return to the present. This game takes four scenes from the Hollywood movie Back to the Future III and turns them into arcade sequences: Buckboard Chase: Doc Brown goes horseback in an attempt to save Hill Valley's lovely school teacher Clara. This game of quick ducking, jumping and shooting alternates between a side-scrolling and a top-down perspective. Shooting Gallery: The name says it all. A classic game of aim-and-shoot, spiced up by hidden extras and bonus targets. Pie Throwing: Meet the Mad Dog gang. They have guns, and you have.. cream pies. It's an isometric version of the shooting gallery, only with ammo. And the targets shoot back. The Train: Basically a side-scrolling beat-em-up on train wagons with some ducking and jumping. Get rid of the mechanics and collect speed logs to push the engine to a magic 88 mph.
I'm quite sure you've at least heard of the Back to the Future films. Unfortunately not all of them (part one is missing) were made into PC computer games.
At the end of the second part of the movie Doc is stuck in the wild west and it's up to Marty to go and help him. Again, like with Back to the Future Part II the game doesn't follow the movie, but only takes some parts of the plot.
I'm guessing that's why the first part of the game doesn't seem familiar.
Doc is ridding to save the school teacher (who'd ultimately become the love of his life) from a certain death. OK, in the movie he saved her too, but he didn't have collect her panties on the way, jump over chests, duck under tomahawks, ride through a valley where a war between the army and the Indians was taking place and so on.
After you successfully save her, it's Marty's turn for some action. You get to the shooting gallery. Guess what you have to do there? That's right, you either need to pick up all the little needles from the cactus without getting bitten by a singing germ, or at least shoot. The good thing about the shooting gallery is that you can enter it at the opening screen and practice.
The third part is again something you can practice first. It's the pie throwing. Remember how Marty had to fight off the entire gang? Well, you'll get to do that here. Standing in front of a Saloon you'll have pies at your disposal and you'll have to throw them at any bad guy showing his face and trying to shoot you. You're wearing armor of course, so you can take a few shots without dying right away.
And finally you need to take the control of the train. It's the one that will enable you to travel back to the future and it's also the one that Doc will convert into a new state of the art time machine, the one he'll use in the animated series that followed the movie (don't worry, even if you fail that won't affect the animated series).
So it's an action game that will help you pass the time you could do something more creative (like counting the leaves on the tree above your favorite bench in the park). The graphics are OK, but not spectacular, unfortunately the sounds are bad. They are too high pitched for my taste and hurt the ears. The gameplay is easy enough, yet does present a challenge. All in all it's a solid time waster that deserves an average mark.
Back to The Future III is a fun variety action game based on the hit movie of the same name. What makes the game more than just another shoot-em-up is twofold: the way it presents each chapter in the story as a self-contained, enjoyable action game, and great cutscenes between these chapters.
Those who have played Image Works' earlier Back to The Future II game will immediately recognize the design: each level is a self-contained mini-game. Since all levels are inspired by famous scenes from the movie, those who have seen it will know what to expect. In this final episode to the trilogy, Marty McFly and Doc Brown travel back to 1885 Hill Valley to find people from Marty's time (1985) and return them safely home. But Buford 'Mad Dog' Tannen isn't going to make it easy.. not in this Wild West. You, as Marty McFly, will need to survive a buckboard chase, excel at a shooting gallery, dodge the pie throwers, and survive a harrowing train chase. Although the game is disappointingly short, it is great fun while it lasts-- all four mini-games are well done, and you can even practice the shooting gallery and pie throwing (my favorite) from the game's main menu. Buford's mean gang always shows up to spoil the fun, provided an added challenge in each chapter. Cut-scenes from the movies (although drawn in cartoon style) help move the story along, and are much better produced than Back to The Future II
